Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old cricketer from Samastipur, Bihar, has made history as the youngest player in IPL 2025 auction. He was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.10 crore during the IPL mega auction at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah.
Born on March 27, 2011, in Tajpur village, Bihar, Vaibhav’s love for cricket began at a very young age. His father, Sanjeev, a former cricketer, recognized his son’s talent and helped him practice cricket from the age of 4. By the time he was 9, he joined a cricket academy to further develop his skills.
Rise of Youngest Player in IPL 2025
Vaibhav’s rise in cricket has been impressive. At just 12 years old, he made a mark in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scoring 400 runs across five matches. His performance caught the attention of selectors, and he was soon selected for the India B U-19 squad in the quadrangular series held in Andhra Pradesh in November 2023.
However, during the India A U-19 series against Bangladesh and England, he didn’t perform well enough to secure a spot in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 squad. But Vaibhav did not give up.

Historic Century and IPL Auction Success
In a remarkable achievement, Vaibhav scored a century as an opener against Australia Under-19 in Chennai, making him the youngest-ever player to score a century in youth cricket at just 13 years and 187 days. This broke the previous record held by Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto.
During the IPL auction, Vaibhav was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.10 crore. His base price started at INR 30 lakh, and a bidding war between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals saw him eventually secured by the Royals. This auction success was a direct result of his exceptional performance at the youth level.
Debut in First-Class Cricket
Vaibhav’s cricket journey continued to shine as he made his first-class debut in January 2024 during the Elite Group B match against Mumbai in Patna. This milestone made him the youngest player to debut in first-class cricket since 1986.
