The T20 World Cup 2024 ended in Barbados with India winning the final against South Africa by seven runs on Saturday, June 29. This was India’s first ICC title since 2013 and their first T20 World Cup win since 2007.

The tournament had many great fielding moments. Aiden Markram led with eight catches, while Glenn Maxwell, Tristan Stubbs, and Harry Brook each had seven catches. Some of these catches were amazing and will be remembered for a long time.

Here are the top 5 catches of the 2024 T20 World Cup:

1. Suryakumar Yadav vs South Africa

In the last over of the 2024 T20 World Cup final, Suryakumar Yadav made a game-changing catch that helped India win. David Miller hit a high ball towards the boundary, looking like it was going to be a six, but Suryakumar caught it right before it went over the edge. He almost fell out of bounds but managed to throw the ball back in play. This exciting moment thrilled Indian fans and was crucial for India’s victory in the tournament.

2. Aiden Markram vs England

Another great catch has been added to the list. In a game against South Africa, England needed 14 runs from the last over. Anrich Nortje made Harry Brook hit the ball badly. Aiden Markram ran in from the field, kept his eyes on the ball, and made a diving catch.

Earlier in the tournament, Markram also made a fantastic catch against Bangladesh, which helped his team win. Even though he didn’t score many runs, Markram’s fielding was outstanding as South Africa’s captain.

3. Steven Taylor vs Pakistan

The United States did really well in the 2024 T20 World Cup. They won a big match against Pakistan in the group stage.

Saurabh Netravalkar played really well throughout the tournament. He got Mohammad Rizwan out with a tricky catch. The ball was about to drop in front of Steven Taylor, who was standing at first slip. It looked like he wouldn’t be able to reach it.

But Taylor didn’t give up. He stretched out to his right and caught the ball just before it hit the ground, using only one hand. After that catch, the USA won an exciting Super Over and created a great memory.

4. Axar Patel vs Australia

Axar Patel had a fantastic tournament for India, excelling in batting, bowling, and fielding. In India’s final Super 8 game against Australia, Mitchell Marsh hit a big shot towards deep square leg off Kuldeep Yadav.

Axar, standing a bit inside the boundary, saw the ball heading over his head towards the crowd. But he jumped and caught it with his right hand before landing on the ground.

This great catch helped India win strongly against Australia and nearly knocked them out of the tournament.

5. Sybrand Engelbrecht vs Bangladesh

Sybrand Engelbrecht is well-known for his excellent fielding skills. In his last tournament for the Netherlands, he showed that he’s still quick and agile, even though he’s older.

When Litton Das played a high sweep shot off Aryan Dutt’s bowling, Engelbrecht had to run a long way to catch the ball near the deep square leg. He sprinted across the field and made a diving catch with both hands, which was a crucial moment for the Dutch team.

Even with Engelbrecht’s great effort, the Tigers won the game by 25 runs. Engelbrecht also scored the most runs for his team in their batting innings, making 33 runs quickly.
