KKR: Sri Lankan batsman enters KKR franchise, replaces Australian legend

KKR: The third season of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WPCL 2024) has started. The first match of the tournament was played between Barbados Royal Women and Guyana Amazon Warriors, in which the Royals team emerged victorious. The second match of the tournament is to be played on 23 August between Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royal Women. Before this match, Sri Lanka’s star batsman has entered the Knight Riders team.

KKR: Harshita Samarawickrama enters Kolkata Knight Riders franchise

Actually, the Knight Riders team has included Harshita Samarawickrama in its squad as a foreign player. The franchise has made her a part of the squad as a replacement for Australia’s dashing batsman Meg Lanning. Lanning will not be able to participate in WCPL 2024 this time due to injury.

Left-handed top order batsman Samarawickrama is the fourth foreign player to join the Knight Riders team along with Shikha Pandey, Jemimah Rodrigues and Jess Jonassen. She is the second Sri Lankan female player to be a part of this foreign league after Chamari Atapattu.

Samarawickrama has been in the news for her brilliant performance for some time now. In the final match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, she scored an unbeaten 64 off 51 balls against Team India and also won the Player of the Match award.

After this, she scored two consecutive half-centuries in the T20 series against Ireland and then in the ODI series, she scored 105 runs against the Irish team and also became the third female player to score a century in ODIs for Sri Lanka. She has scored 1463 runs in her 65 T20 match career at a strike rate of 99.72. During this, her highest score has been 86 not out.

If we talk about Lanning, she was last seen playing for London Spirit in The Hundred this month, in which her team was successful in winning the title. However, Lanning’s performance in the tournament was not very special. She scored 170 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 125.
